Amazon is to offer end-to-end encryption for videos captured by the Ring doorbell worldwide, following a successful trial in the US. It means that only the smartphone on which the video is received will be able to view the files. Ring first rolled out end-to-end encryption earlier this year as a technical preview for customers interested in trying it out and sharing their feedback. But now, any user can opt into the feature through the Ring app on their iPhone or Android device. Only the enrolled mobile device has the "special key" needed to unlock the videos, which Ring said it "designed so no one else can view your videos - not even Ring or Amazon." Ring already encrypts video from its devices when they are uploaded to the cloud and stored on its servers, but this opt-in feature offers an extra layer of security. One which Ring told TechRadar it views as the equivalent to "a second deadbolt on a door". Unfortunately, any Ring video doorbell or security camera that's battery-powered won't work with end-to-end encryption, even if it's hardwired. That means the Ring Video Doorbell 3, Ring Video Doorbell 4, Ring Video Doorbell (2020), and Ring Stick-Up Cam (Battery) are incompatible with this feature. Read more -here-
