Apple has warned iPhone 8 owners that a number of handsets carry a serious hardware fault, Forbes reports. Late last week, Apple revealed that faulty logic boards may have been causing random restarts, screen freezes, and defective startup initiations that prevent the iPhone 8 from turning on properly. Now that the issue is known, Apple is offering to fix anyone with an affected phone, free of charge.

The affected units were purchased between September 2017 and March 2018 in the U.S, Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Macau, and New Zealand.

Fortunately, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X models have been found free of the defect. To find out if you're eligible for a repair, you can visit Apple's support post on the issue and enter your iPhone's serial number.

If your phone is one of the chosen ones, you can get it repaired by making an appointment at your local Apple Retail Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider. You can also mail the device into an Apple Repair Center.
